The Mount Nemo Plateau is a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve located in Ontario’s Greenbelt. This land is threatened by gravel mining, specifically Nelson Aggregate's plans to expand its mega-quarry.
There is already a 6.2 billion tonne reserve of aggregate in the Greater Golden Horseshoe (GGH), enough to last 38 years. There is no need for more aggregate mining.
Tell Doug Ford, Minister of Natural Resources Mike Harris, and Milton MPP Zee Hamid to pause new aggregate approvals and redesignate the Mount Nemo Plateau as protected Escarpment land.
